Clever Architecture designed an innovative engineering work space for local structural and civil engineering powerhouse BKBM Engineers in the Earle Brown Tower at 6120 Earle Brown Dr Suite 700, Minneapolis, MN 55430.
"The trend right now is to apply benching space for offices with an over abundance of collaboration spaces. Yet, most engineering firms and many others do not work well in that environment because of the way they work," said Russell Peterson, Principal Architect at Clever. "We work hard to determine how a company wants to work and then develop an efficient and effective environment for that targeted, forward looking vision. Programming and needs assessment are critical in the venture along with a strong organizational concept. Additionally, BKBM principals' had a strong commitment to share the light and views with their staff. "Clever created the 'BKBM Walk' which is a central flared spine down the middle of the floorplate flanked on either side by glass walled principal offices to share views and light through the space. Many of those glass walls feature work images by BKBM. It's a powerful statement about how a company works and respects their team, continued Peterson. Flanking either side of the central spine is a work environment that contains sit/stand desks, dual monitor arms for large screens, ample layout space, integrated work space storage, breakout spaces, private rooms, conferencing areas, and work rooms. "In order to create the illusion of more height, space, and movement we used a combination of selectively removed ceiling tile areas with a strong directional carpet, and perspective reinforcing color statements. We think it's a powerful office environment for BKBM," stated Mr. Peterson. Primary vendors and suppliers working on the project included Gardner Construction as general contractor, Patcraft of Minnesota for flooring, and Prevolv who provided office systems furniture. BKBM is celebrating their 50th year with a client celebration at their new corporate headquarters at the end of November. ###
